Only individuals over 18 years of age may enter the contest.

The authors and publishers retain all rights to the works submitted.

Digital files submitted in formats such as MOBI, EPUB, PDF, and WORD will be deleted after being read. Only BooksShelf Awards staff will have access to the materials.

If you purchased an entry with an editorial review, please be patient as we have a small staff. Contest entries without an editorial review will receive a rating after the winners are announced.

Authors and publishers may use reviews to promote their titles as long as they attribute them to BooksShelf Awards.

Refunds will not be given for entries that do not meet eligibility requirements, including word count and restrictions on content such as hate speech.

Entries that contain hate speech towards any race, religion, sex, or ethnicity will be disqualified and no refund will be provided.

Winners will not be chosen by default, contests will be based on the merit of the writing and craftsmanship.

The winners will be announced on March 31st, 2024.

The promotion of the winning books will start on April 1st, 2024.

We accept novels in all forms of publication, including self-published and traditionally published, as well as manuscripts.

All manuscripts must be in the following formats (only electronic submissions are accepted): MOBI, EPUB, PDF, and WORD

Entries must be in English.

There is no maximum word count for Friction, Nonfiction, Children's Books, or Poetry. The minimum word counts for each category are as follows

Fiction: 30,000 words
-
Nonfiction: 15,000
-
Children's books: No minimum

Poetry: No minimum

You may enter multiple books into the contest.

You may enter one book in multiple genres. Each genre submission requires a separate entry fee.

Fees and digital files must be received before the deadline, and editorial reviews will be posted on BooksShelf Awards after your approval. If you do not wish to have your review posted, you must inform us within 3 days of receiving it. If we do not receive such notice from you we will post the review on our website.
By entering this contest, you acknowledge that BooksShelf Awards is not responsible for any issues that may prevent the delivery of your entries, such as electronic or internet outages.
Additionally, you understand that the contest judging and book reviewing process is subjective and that you may not agree with the feedback provided. However, by entering the contest, you agree to accept and abide by the decisions of the BooksShelf Awards judges regarding the scoring and judging of your entries. By completing and submitting the entry form, you also agree to indemnify and hold harmless the officers, judges, reviewers, members, and owners of BooksShelf, Excalibre Publishing, and BooksShelf Awards from any liability arising from their actions related to the judging and handling of your entry and the contest itself.
You are solely responsible for any taxes associated with accepting and using the prize. It is your responsibility to pay the appropriate authorities if taxes are applicable to the prize.
You may not exchange, transfer or redeem the prize for cash.
We reserve the right to substitute the prize (or a portion of the prize) with something of comparable or greater value.
The prizes are awarded "as is" and without any warranty, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.
Prizes
If the number of entries for a contest is not sufficient, as determined by BooksShelf Awards, the CEO has the right to cancel the contest. Refunds will be provided to entrants who paid to enter the canceled contest within 60 days of the cancellation and will be paid through a refund via the payment method you've used (credit/debit card or PayPal). No prizes will be awarded for a canceled or terminated contest.
